The Preceptory was named after the Beeston Regis Priory founded in the 12th Century; it was unusual as it was independent, unlike other small houses of the Augustinian Order.

It existed until 1538 when the dissolution of the Monasteries became law under Henry VIII.

The ruins are part of the World Heritage Site and are still very popular with visitors.

John How. P.Gt.St.B(B), P.Provincial Sub-Prior
