4th Annual Bodyguard Report

Continuing along the lines first set out by the Provincial Prior in 2006, the Bodyguard’s progress has gone beyond what was considered possible at the time. Thanks are due to him for his foresight and confidence in us, coupled with his continuous encouragement, guidance and interest

Drill and confidence continue to grow apace. The Preceptories now look forward to our visits not only to increase their numbers present but on many occasions our taking active parts in their ceremonies. Our circle of friends continues to grow; newer members of the Preceptories witnessing the comradeship we have are eager to join our ranks.

The first annual BBQ hosted by Anne and Robin Colton on the 30th May was a resounding success enabling us to purchase new Mantle Badges and Lapel pins plus repaying the Province for the Collar Jewels already bought and sold (past members of the Bodyguard are entitled to purchase and wear both, they are available from myself). The event was such a success that Diane and Brian Hallard will be hosting the 2010 event for members, partners and invited guests. The BBQ result and sale of pins and jewels has ensured that the Bodyguard is now completely self-financing!!!

Attendance figures for the last year remained excellent with an average 6.38 members attending 31 meetings. Some of us even accompanying the Provincial Executive on visits to other Provinices. The saddest event of the year was being asked to act as ushers at Margaret’s funeral – a very dear friend to us all – it was a privilege to be there.

The highlight of my year was being installed into the Chair of Royal Plantagenet Preceptory No.80, with a bumper attendance of fellow members really letting their hair down (sorry Brian H.) and it came as a shock when I was carried into the Festive Board on their Shoulders!!!

Our Commander Ian, retires from office today (27th February) and we wish him every success for the future and thank him for the kind and expert way in which he has guided us these past 4 years. This year also sees the Bodyguard lose 3 of our keenest and most active members as they reach the cut-off point of membership – arrival at the chair of their Preceptory. Ken, Charles and Kevin, we wish you all the best for your year in Office, and for your dedication to us all and your continued and selfless friendship. To their replacements, whoever they may be, you have a hard act to follow.

Although I too have reached the cut-off point, I have been asked to continue as Registrar – a position that I thoroughly enjoy. Finally, to thank the Preceptory Registrars for their support – please keep sending me the summonses!!, and to every single member of the Province, thank you for your friendship and welcome wherever we appear.
